Frequently Asked Questions
How does granite form?
Granite is an igneous rock: essentially molten magma, which cooled and hardened below the earth's surface
Is marble the same as granite?
Marble is generally a calcious stone, formed from oceanic deposits and then compressed under pressure (metamorphosed). While it is durable and can be highly polished, it is slightly softer than granite and requires more care.
Does granite stain?
Generally speaking, liquid spilled on granite will not stain if it's removed within a few minutes. If granite is unsealed, even water will discolour the surface but only for a few minutes until it evaporates.
Are stains in granite permanent?
Usually stains, even oil stains, can be removed or significantly reduced by using a poultice or paste to draw the oil from the granite stone.
Will granite will lose its lustre over time?
Because of its extremely hard surface, granite is highly scratch resistant and will not show daily wear.
Does granite require a great deal of maintenance?
Care for granite countertops with a mild soap and water. A penetrating sealer should be applied on an annual basis to maintain a stain-free surface. It takes just a few minutes and ensures that your countertops will remain stain-free and look like new for years to come.
Can heat damage my granite kitchen countertops?
Granite can withstand the heat of hot pots and pans without damage.
Will granite chip or crack?
A heavy blow may chip your granite, but it is extremely hard and will withstand most accidents without incident.
Are granite kitchen counter tops foodsafe?
Bacteria is found everywhere; on granite tops, wood, laminate and solid surfaces alike.
Is granite expensive?
Cost-wise, granite compares favourably to other high-end surfacing materials and offers great value with natural strength, beauty, elegance and longevity.
